Early Settlers

today i went along on a school excursion with my son's class. he's in a class 5/6 called the 'explorer's'. his teacher had organised this amazing excursion to guildford, one of the early settlements in western australia (1829).

we all went dressed up as early settlers….here's me and my boy (i was told that i looked like a milk maid!)…

…most of the girls wore beautiful bonnets and old fashioned dresses….

our first stop was the 'rose and crown hotel' where a ghost named harry lives in the cellar….

then we visited a 2-room early settler's wooden cottage and the local goal where they mainly keep a collection of old tools and household implements…

from the simple little cottage we went on to the very grand 'woodbridge house' which an early settler – who got rich collecting pearl shells up north and selling them for mother of pearl – built in 1885…

we had a great day….dressing up…..seeing how people lived in the old days…and re-enacting some of it…
