Summertime…

…and the living is eeeeeeeeeeeasy…

we had some extremely hot and humid days, followed by a day and night of sweet summer rain, and then some 'cooler' weather. perfect for family time at home – relaxing, reading, watching movies,…

i've started knitting socks for my dad's birthday. he's in germany and it will still be cold there for a while…

i've also done a bit of experimenting with nuno felt for the upcoming online class…

and… i've started to tidy up the studio. i'm in desperate need for some space here. so i've decided to have a BIG SALE in my etsy shop – if just it wouldn't take so looooong to do all the listings!

i'm saying good-bye to some of the things that i have become attached to but don't really need. like lisa – i made her and a few other dolls for a local shop. when i sewed up her body my sewing machine started playing up, so the seams aren't perfect and i kept her here and i really loved having her…

so far i've put 21 items in the sale and there will be more coming…

this last week has also been a busy time in the garden. we had a couple of trees chopped down. their branches were overhanging the roofs of the house and studio and apart from the increasing danger of branches falling on the roof or in case of a bushfire, we also needed them out of the way to be able to install the solar panels…

after all the clearing away of wood was done one corner felt quite empty and we went to visit a bamboo and palm nursery…

it was like entering a different world – perth at this time of year is so dry and barren and here we were in this lush palm grove: palm trees of every size and variety, ferns, orchids and elkhorn hanging from the tree trunks, frangipani flowers and of course bamboo…

they even had my favourite palm: the majestic canary island palm tree, that i grew up with when my family lived in the canary islands…

in the end we took a small pot of giant yellow bamboo home…

it's only little now but in a few years it will be as big as our other giant bamboo on the other side of the studio…

we stayed up late that night, digging holes, shovelling soil and planting lettuce until after 10pm – it was so nice to work in the garden in the cool night air…

which reminds me… it's morning now and i need to go out and do the watering before the day get's too hot…

p.s.: i just found this picture that paul took of the giant yellow bamboo when we were in bali – can't wait for ours to look like this…
